Dharug History
From where the sun came
Long before the recorded accounts of Captain James Cook,
'Bainmuuri' (place of many winds) had been visited by explores and
traders from numerous islands amongst the northern hemisphere.
During the 1400's the western/eastern coastlines had been charted
by China, not long after the Chinese had been in contact with the first
inhabitants of our continent island, the Dutch had visited the Western
coast. Spanish have also been reputed to have explored the continent in
the 15-1600's. Followed closely by the French, Russians and finally the
British. Notwithstanding there are numerous accounts of many other
foreigners visiting our home long before the recorded events concerning
the history of our lands and people (Iyura).
When Time Stood Still
April 20th 1770 Captain James Cook claims possession of the whole
east coast of Australia for the British Crown. An Island man Tuwi and
Joseph Banks accompianed Captain James Cook ashore during thier
exploration of Grunalla (many beach heads) stopping at Kurnell (pink
seashells) the three men surveyed the surrounding beach heads of Pink
Shells. It has been alleged that Captain Cook gave instructions for the
man Tuwi to kidnap a small Yuen' child whilst the parents were near-by
fishing. The fate of the young male child is unknown concerning the
recorded and actual facts surrounding the explorations of the Endevour
and her crew. It is a complete fabrication the the term Boomarang was
termed by COOK, the word first appears in records from 1822 and first
recorded as Bou-mar-rang and originating from a dialect of the
Darug/Thurwal inhabiting the Georges River. It is often pointed out by
respected elders of culture, that Cook had never truly claimed the
Eastern Coast of Van Diemans Land or New Holland. If he had? Why place
the Union Jack on an island off shore and rename it as the 'Possession
Island'
